A poor man in Thanh Hoa Province is in need of financial help to support his wife and two children who all have mental problems.

Chu Van Khanh, 55, in An Nong Commune, Trieu Son District, now has to take care of his two adult children who were born with mental diseases while his wife has recently developed the same problems.
Khanh said that he has never got a day free during the last 30 years since his daughter and son were born.
"My daughter is 30 and my son is 25 years old now but they all behave just like a three-year-old baby," the father said. "They used to wander around and attack other people. A neighbour helped put up a gate to prevent them from going out. And since being locked at home, they often cry and shout all day."

The poor man added that his wife has also developed mental problems recently so the burden is growing heavier on him. And his health is not very good.

"I'm working as a construction worker and some other odd jobs to support my family," he said. "But my health has turned worse in recent years. I have asthma and sometimes I faint while working, but I can’t afford a health check-up."His children are receiving the government's allowances of VND1 million (USD 43) each a month but the money is only enough to buy medicine for them. Khanh said that they sometimes lack food. Adding to the problems, their house has also seriously deteriorated and is often flooded during the rainy seasons.
"I am weak now and I'm afraid that I don't have much time to live," he said. "I'm worried that no one will take care of them after I die."
Vice-chairman of An Nong Commune People's Committee, Nguyen Van Tuan, said that Khanh's family was the most difficult case in the area.
