Le Tuan Khang, 11, has been suffering from bone cancer for four months. His parents have had to sell all their family’s valuables to cover the treatment.

Khang’s father Le Van Vinh said that in August last year, Khang struggled with pains in his right knee. The situation continued worsening over the following days, so Khang was taken to hospital. He then was diagnosed with osteoarthritis and allowed to return home.
But, later, Khang’s knee became swollen and was brought to Saint Paul Hospital in Hanoi where doctors said that he was struggling with bone cancer.
Vinh had to sell a plot of land and borrowed money from different sources for his son’s treatment. Every day, Khang has to use medicines to ease the pain.
The operation for Khang was scheduled to be conducted in a week. But, his parents failed to secure the money for treatment. According to doctors, the surgery would cost nearly VND1 billion (USD43,103).

By the end of last year, Khang’s mother Nguyen Thi Xuan had to stop her work in Saudi Arabia to return home to take care of Khang.
Nguyen Khac Duc, chairman of Hoa Thanh Commune, said that Vinh’s family is among the poorest in the locality. Khang is in critical condition and needs support now.
