HCM City police have just arrested seven men, including two foreigners, for swindling local women into sending them valuable gifts on the pretext of getting married.
The gang included Ihugba Augustine Chinonso and Onu Chinonso from Nigeria and Tran Viet Hung, Le Thi Mai Phuong, Nguyen Thi Tuyet, Le Van Nhoc, Pham Truong Thanh and Nguyen Vinh Hai.
The gang arrested for swindling local women
According to the HCM City police, since October 2015, Ihugba Augustine Chinonso contacted many Vietnamese woman through Facebook by sending them messages to flirt them. He promised to marry them and provide them many valuable assets.
After that, Chinonso told his accomplices in Vietnam to disguise themselves as transporters to call for the contacted women to send transport fees to Chinonso’s account.
Chinonso and his accomplices allegedly cheated many Vietnamese women. From January to February this year, Chinonso used a fake name Brian Ronald to get acquainted with a local woman named Ngo Thi Hong C. and then cheated her of money.
The group have also cheated many people by informing them on Facebook that they have won lucky draw prizes such as motorbikes. The Facebookers were required to pay some money in advance before receiving the gift.
