Outstanding workers will be honoured during the celebration of the 130th International Workers' Day and the 2016 Workers’ Month.
The information was released at a press briefing to provide information about the 130th anniversary of International Workers' Day and launching the 2016 Workers’ Month held by Vietnam General Confederation of Labour (VGCL) in Hanoi on April 25.
At the press conference, VGCL Deputy Chairman Nguyen Van Ngang said that PM Phuc will join workers in entertainment activities and will then hold a dialogue with labourers to listen to the thoughts and aspirations of workers on issues related to wages, housing and training. Prior to the dialogue, PM Phuc will also have a meeting with local businesses. In the series of activities to celebrate the 130th anniversary of International Workers' Day and the 2016 Workers’ Month, the confederation will work with Hanoi authorities to hold a rally at Hanoi’s Vietnam-Soviet Friendship Labour Cultural Palace on the evening of May 1, to be televised live on Vietnam Television Channel 1 (VTV1). The meeting is expected to be attended by over 1,000 employees and workers in Hanoi, as well as from trade unions of the neighbouring provinces.
A programme entitled ‘Proud of Vietnamese Intellectual Labour’ will also be held within the framework of the May 1 meeting, aimed at honouring ten outstanding products, services and workers selected from the list of the 75 best products and services submitted to the programme.
According to Ngang, one of the criteria for products to be honoured at the programme is that the product is Vietnamese made and serves Vietnamese people. The event also offers an opportunity for businesses and investors to pay tribute to labourers who have contributed to the brand development and success of enterprises.
An exhibition featuring products from the ‘Proud of Vietnamese Intellectual Labour’ programme, along with a labour festival with 63 booths offering health advice, household skills, food and discounts for workers, will open on April 30 at the Vietnam-Soviet Friendship Labour Cultural Palace.
As part of May Day festivities, outdoor cultural and music programmes will bring unique repertoires to audiences.
Om May 6, the VGCL will organise a symposium on labour movements and innovation of Vietnam’s trade unions to review the practice and discuss measures to facilitate labour movements in the new period.
On the occasion, the provincial labour federations and trade unions have developed plans and implemented various activities to care for employees under the theme of the 2016 Workers’ Month – ensuring interests and bettering welfare for wokers.
