Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has decided to allocate 130,100 tonnes of rice to support over 8.6 million people who are facing difficulties due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
PM to hand out rice amid Covid-19 pandemic
The PM on Friday morning asked the Ministry of Finance to give out over 130,100 tonnes of rice to help people in 24 provinces and cities that are in serious difficulties because of Covid-19. The Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs and the Ministry of Finance will both be responsible for the distribution.
Local authorities must carry out the plan and give the rice to people in need as quickly as possible. They can ask the two ministries to get more support if necessary. The ministries will report to the PM.
The plan was suggested by the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs to help 8,678,378 people for one month. Each person will be given 15kg of rice. Over 71,000 tonnes of rice will be sent to HCM City which is the country's biggest epicentre.
On August 16, the PM also approved the Ministry of Labours, Invalids and Social Affairs' proposal to give 4,100 tonnes of rice to Binh Phuoc, Bac Lieu and Soc Trang provinces.
