A Fedex airplane was about to land when its pilot saw a car parked on the runway in Noi Bai International Airport, an aviation official said.
The incident happened in late March, and many related personnel have since then been suspended, according to the official, who wished to remain anonymous.
The pilot had reportedly received a signal from air traffic control to land and started to descend, before he suddenly discovered that a car was parked on the runway. The plane was immediately taken back up. The vehicle was later identified as one that carries the task of cleaning the runway.
According to the official, a number of personnel working at the air traffic control and in charge of the vehicle have been suspended, while the authority has been investigating the incident.
