The Mekong Delta city of Can Tho is hosting a photo exhibition which graphically depicts the horrific consequences of Agent Orange on Vietnamese people’s lives today.

Four US C-123 aircraft spraying toxic chemicals over southern Vietnam

The municipal Association of Victims of Agent Orange (AO)/dioxin and 9th Military Zone\'s Museum co-organised the exhibition of some 200 photos to mark 50th anniversary of the use of the toxic chemical by US troops over southern Vietnam.

The exhibition is divided into four parts. The first one entitled “Crimes” depicts the period from 1961-1971 when the US airforce sprayed 80 million litres of toxic chemicals over 3.06 million hectares or 25% of southern Vietnam, of which Agent Orange accounted for 61%.

The second part, “Catastrophe”, demonstrates the consequences that the Vietnamese people have had to bear, including the affect on the environment and human health. Up to 4.8 million Vietnamese people were exposed to AO/dioxin and three million today suffer health problems due to exposure. Thousands of others have died or are struggling with serious illness and poverty.

The third and the fourth parts portray the care provided for AO/dioxin victims, including house construction and repairs, scholarship provision, vocational support and donations made on special occasions.
