Due to a large inflow from upstream following heavy rains, the water level in Hoa Binh Reservoir grew to 108.67 metres, so the Hoa Binh Hydropower Plant opened two sluice gates to ensure the dam's safety and the downstream area at 4 pm on Tuesday.

Hoa Binh Reservoir is situated on the Da River.

While the hydropower plant was discharging water, groups of people or families rushed to the reservoir to bathe.

Da River's water level fluctuates unpredictably in the rainy season, and many areas have dangerous whirlpools, posing a high risk of drowning. However, many residents still ignore the dangers.

The Hoa Binh Hydropower Plant has been urged to coordinate with concerned agencies to ensure safety when discharging water.

Last month, some tourists were swept away when a hydropower plant on Hoa Binh Reservoir discharged water. Luckily, residents rescued them.
