Over 2.3 million people in Vietnam have become unemployed in the fourth Covid-19 wave in Vietnam, the General Statistics Office of Vietnam announced in the labour and employment survey in the first half of 2021.

The service sector is leading with 35.8% of people working in this sector unable to find jobs. Agriculture, forestry and fisheries followed with a rate of 35.6%. The average monthly income in the second quarter was VND6.1m (USD264), a drop of VND226,000 on the previous quarter and an increase of VND547,000 on the same period last year.
The number of people who lost their jobs in the second quarter was nearly 1.2 million, increased by 87,000 people compared to the previous quarter and dropped by 82,100 people compared to the same period last year.
Unemployed people aged from 15 to 24 accounted for 389,800 of the total. The unemployment rate among young people in urban areas was 9%.
