Vietnam confirmed 2,015 more Covid-19 infections in the past 12 hours, including 1,535 in the virus hotspot of Ho Chi Minh City, raising the total number of patients in the country to 55,845, the Ministry of Health reported on Monday morning.
According to the ministry's report, 2,014 of the newly-confirmed patients are locally-transmitted cases 1,688 of whom were detected in quarantine sites or areas under lockdown in some localities including 1,535 in Ho Chi Minh City, 215 in Binh Duong, 74 in Dong Nai, 41 in Vinh Long, 30 in Ben Tre, 25 in Phu Yen, 19 in Soc Trang, 17 in Ba Ria-Vung Tau, 14 in Quang Ngai, 12 in Hanoi, eight in An Giang, six in Dong Thap, five in Tra Vinh, three in Bac Ninh, two in Hau Giang, two in Quang Nam, two in Vinh Phuc, two in Lao Cai, and one each in Thai Binh and Gia Lai.
Ho Chi Minh City continued to report the highest number of new infections in the country. On Sunday, the city also recorded 4,692 new patients, the majority of which are individuals who came into contact with confirmed Covid-19 patients or who were detected in either isolation and locked down areas. The city has imposed social distancing measures in 15 days starting from July 9 in an effort to prevent the virus spread.
As of Monday morning, 52,215 locally-transmitted cases have been reported since the new outbreak occurred in the country on April 27, including 32,926 in the virus hotspot of Ho Chi Minh City. The outbreak has so far spread to 58 cities and provinces nationwide.
One imported patient is a Vietnamese citizen who recently returned from abroad. She was sent to a quarantine area in Hanoi upon arrival and is now being treated at a local hospital.
With these new infection cases, the number of Covid-19 patients in Vietnam has increased to 55,845 including 53,785 locally-transmitted cases.
As of 6 pm on July 18, a total of 10,667 Covid-19 patients had recovered and been discharged from hospital.
So far there have been 254 deaths, most of them being the elderly with serious underlying diseases.
The country has conducted over 4.28 million Covid-19 vaccine shots, with 306,475 people having received two doses.
