Over 16,000 Covid-19 infections confirmred nationwide

An additional 16,035 Covid-19 infections were confirmed in Vietnam on Tuesday and Hanoi continued to record the highest number with over 2,800 cases, according to the Ministry of Health.

According to the ministry's report, 16,019 of the new patients are locally-transmitted cases confirmed in all 63 localities in the country with five localities seeing the highest numbers including Hanoi (2,884), Khanh Hoa (782), Ca Mau (762), Binh Dinh (671), and Binh Phuoc (667). There were 16 imported cases confirmed the same day.

The new infections showed an increase of 1,236 cases compared to yesterday's figure. There were 10,691 infections found in the community.

As of Tuesday evening, 1,924,372 infections had been reported since the new outbreak occurred in the country in late April. Vietnam has so far confirmed 31 Omicron-infected cases.

With these new infection cases, the number of Covid-19 patients in Vietnam has increased to 1,930,428. The country now stands 28th among 224 countries and territories worldwide in the number of infections.

On January 11, an additional 6,866 more patients recovered from the disease, raising the number of recoveries in the country to 1,596,960.

On Tuesday evening, a further 256 deaths related to Covid-19 were announced, bringing the total number of fatalities in Vietnam to 34,787. The high fatalities were reported in some localities including HCM City (19), Long An (30), Dong Nai (24), Kien Giang (21), Dong Thap (15), and Vinh Long (15).

Vietnam on January 10 administered 1.24 million doses of Covid-19 vaccines. The country has so far conducted over 162.37 million Covid-19 vaccine shots, with over 71.38 million people having received two doses.
