An additional 15,150 more Covid-19 infections was confirmed in Vietnam on Saturday and Hanoi continued to report the highest number with over 2,800 cases, the Ministry of Health has reported.
According to the ministry's report, 15,100 of the new patients are locally-transmitted cases confirmed in 61 out of 63 localities in the country with five localities seeing the highest numbers including Hanoi (2,806), Bac Ninh (992), Danang (865), Thanh Hoa (732), and Hai Phong (663). There were 50 imported cases confirmed the same day.
The new infections showed an increase of 208 cases compared to yesterday's figure. There were 10,187 infections found in the community.
As of Saturday evening, 2,226,343 infections had been reported since the new outbreak occurred in the country in late April. Some localities that have recorded the highest number of patients include HCM City ((513,578), Binh Duong (292,823), Hanoi (125,866), Dong Nai (99,859), and Tay Ninh (87,962). Vietnam has so far confirmed 166 Omicron-infected cases.
With these new infection cases, the number of Covid-19 patients in Vietnam has increased to 2,233,287. The country now stands 31st among 224 countries and territories worldwide in the number of infections.
On January 29, an additional 12,353 more patients recovered from the disease, raising the number of recoveries in the country to 1,962,597 .
On Saturday evening, a further 115 deaths related to Covid-19 were announced, bringing the total number of fatalities in Vietnam to 37,432. The high fatalities were reported in some localities including Hanoi (27), Kien Giang (11), Can Tho (7), and Dong Thap (6).
Vietnam on January 28 administered 506,532 doses of Covid-19 vaccines. The country has so far conducted over 180.87 million Covid-19 vaccine shots, with over 74.09 million people having received two doses.
