According to the ministry's report, 12,097 of the new patients are locally-transmitted cases confirmed in 39 localities such as Ho Chi Minh City (5,481 cases), Binh Duong (4,049), Dong Nai (797), Long An (451), Tien Giang (241), Dong Thap (143), Danang (109), Khanh Hoa (92), and Quang Binh (90). Six other patients were imported cases from other countries. There were 6,468 infections found in the community.
As of Saturday evening, 418,320 infections have been reported since the new outbreak occurred in the country in late April, with some southern localities recording high infections such as HCM City (204,964 cases), Binh Duong (98,794), Dong Nai (22,264), and Long An (20,400). The outbreak has so far spread to 62 out of 63 cities and provinces nationwide.
With these new infection cases, the number of Covid-19 patients in Vietnam has increased to 422,469. The country now stands 60th among 222 countries and territories worldwide in the number of infections.
On August 28, an additional 12,375 more patients recovered from the disease, raising the number of recoveries in the country to 210,989.
Also on Saturday evening, a further 352 deaths related to Covid-19 were announced, bringing the total number of fatalities in Vietnam to 10,405. The deaths were reported in HCM City (271), Binh Duong (38), Dong Nai (16), Tien Giang (15), Long An (4), Dong Thap (2), Khanh Hoa (2), Danang (1), Ben Tre (1), Nghe An (1), and Thua Thien Hue (1).
The country has so far conducted over 19.15 million Covid-19 vaccine shots, with over 2.32 million people having received two doses.
