Vietnam confirmed 13,197 more Covid-19 infections on Thursday and 10,602 patients recovered from the disease the same day, according to the Ministry of Health.
According to the ministry's report, 13,186 of the new patients are locally-transmitted cases confirmed in 39 localities such as HCM City (5,963 cases), Binh Duong (4,504), Dong Nai (803), Long An (583), Tien Giang (290), Kien Giang (122), and Dong Thap (102). 11 other patients were imported cases from other countries.
The infection number showed an increase of 1,757 infections compared to yesterday's figure. There were 7,255 infections found in the community.
As of Thursday evening, 482,497 infections have been reported since the new outbreak occurred in the country in late April, with some southern localities recording high infections such as HCM City (232,585 cases), Binh Duong (122,732), Dong Nai (25,328), and Long An (23,221). The outbreak has so far spread to 62 out of 63 cities and provinces nationwide.
With these new infection cases, the number of Covid-19 patients in Vietnam has increased to 486,727. The country now stands 55th among 222 countries and territories worldwide in the number of infections.
On September 2, an additional 10,602 more patients recovered from the disease, raising the number of recoveries in the country to 259,324.
On Thursday evening, a further 271 deaths related to Covid-19 were announced, bringing the total number of fatalities in Vietnam to 12,138. Some localities reported high number of deaths include HCM City (197), Binh Duong (34), Dong Nai (8), Tien Giang (7), Dong Thap (6), Danang (4), Tra Vinh (3), Nghe An (2), Hanoi (1), An Giang (1), Ba Ria - Vung Tau (1), Ben Tre (1), Binh Dinh (1), Binh Thuan (1), Dak Lak (1), Khanh Hoa (1), Kien Giang (1), and Thua Thien Hue (1).
The country has so far conducted over 20.54 million Covid-19 vaccine shots, with over 2.88 million people having received two doses.
