Many northern localities in Vietnam are experiencing serious air pollution, posing health risks.
This morning, November 22, the PAM air quality system recorded dozens air pollution hotspots in Hanoi, including Dong Anh Town in Dong Anh District, Trau Quy area in Gia Lam and Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology in Cau Giay District.
Nam Dinh City in Nam Dinh Province saw an air quality index (AQI) of up to 218 which is very harmful to people’s health.
The same situation was also reported in Binh Luc District in Ha Nam Province, My Hao District in Hung Yen Province, Thai Thuy District in Thai Binh and Vinh Bao District in Haiphong City.
Hanoi’s air pollution has mainly been blamed on vehicle emissions and construction activities. While in other localities, straw burning is also among the major causes of the pollution.
This air pollution spell in northern localities is forecasted to end early next week.
The most severe air pollution in the northern region of Vietnam often occurs from October to March.
The World Health Organisation warned that PM2.5 dust could enter the body via the bloodstream, affecting all major organs, and causing many dangerous diseases, including heart problems and cancers.
