Chi Thanh Tunnel reopens on May 31 after being suspended for ten days due to landslides.

Early this afternoon, a freight train safely passed through Chi Thanh Tunnel, located in Tuy An District in the southern central province of Phu Yen.

At 2.20 pm on the same day, passenger train SE9 also ran through the tunnel, transporting around 200 people.

On May 21, the tunnel experienced two landslides. As a result, the section linking La Hai Station in Dong Xuan District and Chi Thanh Station in Tuy An District in Phu Yen Province was suspended for repairs.

Vietnam's North-South Railway has faced continuous disruption caused by deteriorating tunnels.

Director of Phu Khanh Railway, Le Quang Vinh, said many tunnels on the route had been used for a long time and had deteriorated badly.

The Bai Gio Rail Tunnel, located on the North-South railway route between Phu Yen and Khanh Hoa provinces, also suffered severe landslides in April.

It took engineers up to ten days to finish repairs to the tunnel.
