The commune faced torrential rains from the evening of July 22 to the early morning of July 23. Water from the Lam River spilt over National Highway 7, causing severe inundation.

A 700-metre section of National Highway 7 was submerged by around one metre of water, blocking traffic.

People have to use boats to travel through the flooded area.

Flooding was also reported in residential areas, such as Vinh Hoan and Pha villages, where many households sustained damage to their property and livestock. In the photo, floodwaters have reached halfway up the houses in Vinh Hoan.

Nguyen Thi Kieu, 68, a resident of Vinh Hoan Village, said she had never seen the Lam River rise so high. Floodwaters entered her home, swept everything away, and killed all her chickens and ducks.

Vo Quang Tam, 64, said that his 10 buffaloes and three cows were swept away as floodwaters rose rapidly overnight, resulting in a total loss of around VND 30 million.

Local authorities are actively helping residents in evacuating from dangerous areas, while damage assessment is underway. In the photo, Pha Village locals push motorbikes through rising floodwaters.

Floodwaters even reached the roof of many houses and headquarters.

Le Hong Vinh (The blue shirt), Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of Nghe An People's Committee, was present at the Vuc Bong pass to inspect the rising floodwaters.

Locals are comparing this year's flooding to the historic flood of 1988, and some even say it is even higher and more devastating.
