The University of Science and Technology of Hannoi (USTH) will be built after two loan agreements totaling $190 million were signed yesterday with the Asian Development Bank (ADB).
The signing ceremony was chaired by Governor of the State Bank ofVietnam, Nguyen Van Binh, and ADB Country Director for Vietnam, Tomoyuki Kimura,
The higher education system in Vietnam is seen as essential in developing a high-skilled workforce. There is also a consensus that the university system must be improved.
"To make progress beyond a middle-income country, Vietnam needs to accelerate and invest in its higher education infrastructure, especially in the fields of science and technology," said Mr. Kimura.
This project will establish a new model for universities, which focuses on quality training and research, with practical applications, as well as develop stronger ties with industries in the private sector. Hopefully this will encourage other universities to make similar reforms.
