The A/H1N1 influenza has broken out at a primary school in Dong Xa commune, Na Ri district of the northern mountain province of Bac Kan, according to the Ministry of Health.

A total of 144 people were affected with the deadly virus, said Vu Sinh Nam, deputy head of the Preventive Health and the Environment Department under the Ministry of Health on January 27.

Patients had high temperatures, coughing, sore throats and muscular pain. They were all treated at home under strict scrutiny by local doctors.

More than half the infected cases have recovered from the illness and there have been no deaths, said Mr Nam.

Meanwhile, a new outbreak of the A/N1N1 influenza has been stamped out at a primary school in the northern port city of Hai Phong’s Thuy Nguyen District.

By January 27, Vietnam has confirmed 11,166 cases of A/H1N1 infections, including 56 deaths.
The Ministry of Health has asked local residents to be highly vigilant against the epidemic as the A/H1N1 virus is forecast to emerge strongly during the winter-spring season.
