Nearly 55,000 Covid-19 infections confirmed on Tuesday

Vietnam reported an additional 54,995 Covid-19 infections on Tuesday, raising the national tally to over 9.92 million, according to the Ministry of Health.

According to the ministry's report, most of the new patients are locally-transmitted cases confirmed in 61 out of 63 localities in the country with five localities seeing the highest numbers including Hanoi (5,199), Nghe An (2,925), Phu Tho (2,827), Bac Giang (2,357), and Yen Bai (2,280).

As of Tuesday evening, the number of Covid-19 patients in Vietnam has increased to 9,922,040. The country now stands 12th among 225 countries and territories worldwide in the number of infections. Some localities that have recorded the highest number of patients include Hanoi (1,507,310), HCM City (598,098), Nghe An (405,832), Binh Duong (379,578), and Hai Duong (349,303).

On April 5, an additional 303,455 more patients recovered from the disease, raising the number of recoveries in the country to 8,147,290.

On Tuesday evening, a further 39 deaths related to Covid-19 were announced, bringing the total number of fatalities in Vietnam to 42,681. The high fatalities were reported in some localities including Dak Lak (5), Ben Tre (4), Lang Son (4), Bac Lieu (3), Gia Lai (3), and Nghe An (3).

Vietnam on April 4 administered 469,316 doses of Covid-19 vaccines, raising the total number of doses given to local people to over 207.02 million.
