As the country is celebrating the 76th National Day Anniversary, many streets and houses in HCM City have also been decorated with banners and red flags.
Unlike the bustling atmosphere of the previous years, streets and entertainment areas in the city were quiet on the National Day Holiday this year as local people have been requested to stay at home for virus prevention.
Only health workers and military or police officers were seen working day and night at the checkpoints which have been set up on all streets to monitor people's travelling.
Piercing sounds of the ambulances have also replaced the noises of car and motorbike horns.
Despite facing a tough time with a shortage of essential goods, many people in HCM City have tried to buy flags and hang them at their home to celebrate National Day.
In Lane 10 on Nguyen Dinh Chieu Street, District 1, Cao Van Son and some neighbours were decorating their homes with the national flags.
Son said that all 30 households in Lane 10 had hung a flag in front of their house since September 1.
To Van Hung, head of Group 3 in Da Kao Ward, District 1 said that all households in his group have hung Vietnamese flags at their houses to welcome the National Day.
"Although our lives have been badly affected by the pandemic, this occasion reminds us to try to overcome the difficulties and follow the government's directions to defeat the pandemic.
Ton Thi Ngoc Ha in Ward 2, District 10 said that she felt stronger and more positive when looking at the national flags flying up on her street.
"It's sad to see the quiet streets with closed doors everywhere in my area," she said. "But the red flags have given me a better feeling as we are celebrating the National Day. I believe our city will defeat the pandemic soon."
The country's largest epicentre is expected to bring the virus outbreak under control by September 15.
