More soldiers' remains found at HCM City park, total reaches 227

Authorities have recovered 17 more sets of remains believed to be those of Vietnamese soldiers at Le Thi Rieng Park in Ho Chi Minh City, bringing the total found at the site to 227.

The latest discovery was made on August 7 in a second burial trench, where search teams also recovered 11 associated artefacts, according to the Ho Chi Minh City High Command.

Excavation continued in another section of the park, with crews removing more than 300 cubic metres of soil to reach areas suspected of containing additional remains. The operation involved three excavators, a dump truck and two lorries.

The search was launched following historical research and witness accounts indicating that a mass burial site may exist within what is now Le Thi Rieng Park.

The operation began on July 6, when the first seven sets of remains were recovered. Authorities said the search would continue as work progresses at the site.
