According to the information from the Vietnam Coastal Communication System, the Mongolian oil tanker’s crew were rescued by a fishing ship on December 19.

Two SOS signals were sent to the Vietnam Coastal Communication System at midnight from KIT 95 ship. It was 75 nautical miles away from Vung Tau and 26 nautical miles away from Con Dao Island. The Mongolian oil tanker was built in 1990 with a gross tonnage of 365 tonnes. The crew includes eight members from Myanmar, one Filipino and one Singaporean member.

It wasn't carrying anything at the time and was on the way to China when they were hit by huge waves. The crew members sent the signals then jumped on to the lifeboats as they feared that the ship could sink at any moment. They tried to attract attention from passing by ships but faced huge challenges due to waves and strong winds.

The case was quickly reported to the rescue agencies in the areas and notified to fishing ships nearby.

At 10.30 am, the fishing ship led by Nguyen Quoc Truong found the crew members and transferred them ashore. All 10 crew members were brought to Vung Tau City at 5.45 pm. The representatives from Myanmar Embassy and the Department of Foreign Affairs arrived to complete legal procedures for the crew.
