In an official document issued on May 23, the Ministry of Construction requested authorities of cities and provinces nationwide to not approve construction projects that have European styles.
The document also asked localities to carefully review the construction quality so that the urban planning will contain traditional values. Each town and city will have their own design that shows off the local culture and suits the environment.
After the content of the document was published, the public has raised concern over the ban.
On June 13, the Ministry of Construction issued a new document explaining that it was actually a mistake when they printed the document.
The ministry then has asked localities to remove the ban on western-style architecture.
