Polish Ambassador to Vietnam, Wojciech Gerwel, on behalf of the Polish government presented the vaccine to Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Health Truong Quoc Cuong at a ceremony held on Monday morning in Hanoi.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Polish ambassador said that they wanted to share the difficulties that the Vietnamese Government and people, especially those in Covid-19-hit areas are facing. He also expressed belief in the determination of the Vietnamese government in the fight against the virus.

"With the determination of the Vietnamese government and the support of local people, we believe that Vietnam will soon defeat the pandemic," he stressed.

Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Health Truong Quoc Cuong expressed thanks for the valuable support and donations of medicine, medical equipment and vaccines from the Polish government and people.

The batch of 501,600 AstraZeneca doses arrived in Hanoi on August 21 and has been kept at the National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology for storage and preservation.

It is expected that Poland will transfer 3.5 million more AstraZeneca vaccine jabs to Vietnam, with the specific delivery date yet to be set.

The European country will also donate medical equipment worth USD4 million to Vietnam for Covid-19 fight, which is expected to arrive in early September.
