Bac Kan medical vocational school faces shutdown
During the 2011-2012 academic year, the school had 250 students. There were only 60 students in the 2014-2015 period, 49 students in the 2015-2016 period and nine students in the 2017-2018 period.
Explaining about the situation, Hoang Xuan Son, head of Bac Kan Vocational School said in 2015, the Ministry of Health issued a circular which stated that they would not hire staff who graduate from vocational schools. Students were afraid that they would not be able to find a job, so have rejected courses at the school. Meanwhile, the school does not have enough students to upgrade into a college.
"Bac Kan People's Committee have agreed to shut down the school. The equipment has been transferred to the Bac Kan General Hospital and district medical centres. Many employees and teachers have also transferred," Son said.
On April 22, Bac Kan People's Committee proposed a privatisation plan to save the school after Duy Tan Vietnam Education Corporation suggested transferring the school to the corporation for new investment. The privatisation may be able to upgrade the school into college, train more medical staff for Bac Kan and guest workers to other countries. They also have the plan to train Samsung workers who are out of labour contracts.
Nguyen Dinh Hoc, director of Bac Kan Department of Health said on May 27 that they had previously planned to turn the school into a hospital.
"However the provincial authorities already proposed to privatise the school. The Department of Planning and Investment is conducting research about the proposal," Hoc said.
