An earthquake measuring 5.1 on the Richter scale struck off the Phu Yen coast in central Vietnam today, according to Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST).

But no tsunami warning was issued following the 1:03 am (local time) quake that occurred off the East Sea at the depth of 250km and around 300km away from Phu Yen coast.

According to VAST, despite its quite strong power, the quake caused no real damage because its epicenter was far away from the mainland.

VAST is now keeping eyes on changes in the East Sea.
