The machine, the first of its kind in the locality, is the initiative of Dong Hoa Town’s Youth Union. It will be operated for 20 days, starting from Monday, in the four wards and communes of Hoa Vinh, Hoa Xuan Dong, Hoa Xuan Tay and Hoa Tan Dong.

Initially, around six tonnes of rice have been donated for the machine to dispense. The local Youth Union will continue collecting more rice for the machine’s operation.

Each person can collect 10 kilos of rice each time and a gift of necessities worth around 120,000 (USD5.21).
People are asked for a temperature check and to use hand wash when coming to receive the rice. They need to ensure a safe distance in queuing.
Pham Huu Long from Hoa Vinh Ward said that his family is facing difficulties because of her son’s illness. The pandemic has added more pressure to the family. He was moved and grateful to be offered the free rice.
Phan Xuan Hanh, secretary of Phu Yen’s Youth Union, said that over the past month, the union has joined in many anti-Covid-19 activities, such as providing meals and some kinds of medical equipment worth roughly VND2 billion (USD86,956).
