Low-flying airplane blamed for destruction of roof

A family in HCM has accused a low-flying plane, arriving at Tan Son Nhat Airport, of destroying part of their roof on Nov. 29.

A family in HCM has accused a low-flying plane, arriving at Tan Son Nhat Airport, of destroying part of their roof on November 29.

 Damaged roof

According to the locals on Duong Quang Ham Street, Go Vap District, they heard loud noises at around 8:30am and saw that part of their neighour's roof fall down. "At that time, a plane was flying at a very low altitude in its approach to Tan Son Nhat Airport," a local said.

Pham Thi Mai Huong, owner of the house, said, "We all left the house so we weren't hurt."

After receiving the news, the Southern Airport Authority, a security team from Tan Son Nhat Airport and local authorities quickly arrived at the scene. "There was no storm or strong winds on that day, only a plane that flew by. So we requested the Southern Airport Authority to investigate this case," said the leader from Civil Aviation Authority.

The neighbours went on to say that the plane was only 30 or 40 metres above the house and the neighbourhood is about 2.9km away from the airport.

 Aircraft passes above neighbourhood

The Southern Airport Authority said that they checked with ground control to see if any plane had passed by the neighbourhood at that time, and asked the pilot if there had been any abnormalities. Since activities at the airport seem to have been normal, the investigation has focused on technical problems.

The Tan Son Nhat International Airport receives about 440 flights per day, about 5 minutes apart from each other.
