Many people in Hanoi queued to experience with city’s first urban metro line.

The Cat Linh-Ha Dong metro line was officially put into operation on November 6 after 10 years of construction. Local authorities are offering 15 days of free travel for all passengers. Right after opening, thousands of people over the weekend queued to get their first experience of the metro line in the capital.

Many people queued at the Cat Linh station in Dong Da District at 3 pm on November 7 to try the services.

Small children were also taken to see the trains.

A passenger said that this metro route is very convenient for her daily journey to work so she intended to use it instead of going by motorbike. And she was very eager to try the services.

Passengers had their temperatures taken and were asked to wash their hands, make health declarations and scan QR code before getting on the trains.

However, so many people gathered together in one place raised concerns over possible Covid-19 spread as many people ignored prevention rules.

All the trains were very crowded and many passengers couldn't find a place near the windows to sightsee as they had expected.

It is said that after 15 days of free travelling, fares for this metro line will range from VND8,000-15,000 (USD0.34-0.65).
Passengers can also pay for a day pass for unlimited trips that will cost VND30,000. Meanwhile, a monthly pass would cost VND200,000 and half that for students and workers at industrial parks. For businesses buying the monthly pass for their employees, the rate will be VND140,000.
