Landslides occurs on Gia Bac Pass on December 3.
Authorities recorded at least five landslide sites, including one major collapse in the middle of the pass, where earth, rocks and trees from the slope plunged onto and completely buried the road. Local officials said about 20 cars of various kinds, number of passengers unknown, became trapped on the pass.
Emergency crews are working to clear earth and rock to open a pathway for the stranded vehicles. Traffic police have established checkpoints at both ends and instructed drivers not to enter the danger zone. The landslides left Highway 28 through Gia Bac Pass completely impassable, forcing all vehicles to turn back.
