International piano competition to take place in Hanoi

Young Vietnamese piano talents will have a chance to compete at the 3rd Hanoi International Piano Competition, scheduled to kick off on September 4 at the Vietnam National Academy of Music (VNAM), as heard at a press conference held in Hanoi on August 31. The eight-day event will host 55 contestants from nine countries and territories including Vietnam, China, Taiwan (China), Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, Ukraine, Japan and the Republic of Korea (RoK). Many of them have received numerous international prizes.
The biennial competition is categorised for pianists aged 10-13, 14-17 and 18-25. Each competitor will deliver performances in two individual rounds before playing a concerto with the orchestra in the final round.
In addition to official awards worth US$9,150, a score of auxiliary prizes will be presented to top performing artists.
Members of the jury are seven renowned pianists from Austria, Finland, France, Japan, the RoK, the US and Vietnam.
According to the organising board, the event was first organised in 2010 to nurture classical music talents.
