The Hanoi People’s Committee recently proposed that the municipal People’s Council raise hospital fees by 20%.

The rise has been recommended for public hospitals at all levels, with a ceiling price to be applied for grade 1 hospitals, which are under the management of the Ministry of Health.
The committee also recommended listing prices for 135 medical/technical services.
According to the explanation, many hospitals in Hanoi, but under the management of ministries and agencies, have applied the ceiling fees since August 1 2013. This has led to a disparity in the the prices of medical services among hospitals and. The committee hopes that this will solve the problem.
In August of last year, Hanoi authorities raised hospital fees for more than 1,300 medical services at its public hospitals, doubling the prices for many services.
Still, there is still public concern over the quality of medical services, despite the price-hike.
