In an announcement released on June 7, the park's director Pham Hong Thai cited a BCRA statement, saying that they had found and carried out studies on 447 caves with a total length of 246 kilometres in the area over the past 30 years.
"BCRA said that they can find hundreds of more caves in Phong Nha-Ke Bang and they're trying to explore to raise the number of caves here to over 1,000 in the next 30 years," the announcement said.
The head of BCRA's expedition team, Howard Limbert, said that at first they thought there were just a few caves in Phong Nha-Ke Bang but now they've found 447. Limbert believed that there could be hundreds more caves in the area. He stressed that some caves here like Son Doong, En, and Nguoi Lun have been recognised as some of the largest caves in the world.
