According to the provincial Department of Health, the 63-year-old staff of Nhu Nguyet 2 Hotel was infected with the virus after coming into contact with a group of Indian experts who have stayed at the hotel for Covid-19 quarantine activities since their arrival in Vietnam on April 18.
Four of the experts were later confirmed to have the virus, said a representative from the department.
The hotel staff was among nine quarantined people who had close contact with the four infected experts, but eight of them tested negative.
The patients have been transferred to Hanoi-based National Hospital for Tropical Diseases for treatment.
Vietnam has not detected any locally-transmitted coronavirus infections for the past few weeks. As of Tuesday morning, total patient tall has increased to 2,852, including 1,282 imported patients.
However, the Ministry of Health has warned about a potential risk of a new outbreak in the country which could originate from imported cases, especially illegal entrants.
