Hundreds of homeless people tested for Covid-19 in HCM City
Ngoc said on August 23 while checking the prevention work in the city, they were focusing on 17,262 poor households and homeless people. While going to District 4, he noticed six homeless people trying to find a place to sleep under an overpass and on the street. Deputy Minister of Defence Vo Minh Luong agreed that they had to test and take care of the homeless people.
"Positive cases will be brought to quarantine centres and other people will be brought to social protection centres until the outbreak in the city is controlled," Luong said.
The ministry has started the screen tests on homeless people since August 23 and is bringing them to social centres to limit the spreading of the virus. As of August 26, after testing 800 people, 69 of the results have come back positive. The patients have been brought to quarantine centres.
According to Ngoc, there are about 100 homeless foreigners in HCM City but the authorities are having difficulties gathering them for tests.
