The Ministry of Health has urged localities nationwide to vaccinate against Covid-19 for pregnant women.

Under the ministry’s instructions, the vaccination is also prioritised for frontline medical staff in the Covid-19 fight as well Covid 19-ravaged localities.

Medical check-ups must be conducted before the vaccination.

The Ministry of Health said that pregnant and breastfeeding women are barred from using the Sputnik V vaccine.

Doctor Tran Danh Cuong, director of the National Hospital of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, cited by Vietnam News Agency as saying that the Covid-19 vaccination for pregnant women was necessary to protect them from SARS-CoV-2.

Before getting a Covid-19 vaccine shot, pregnant women need a medical check to identify the health condition of themselves and their babies.

Pregnant women with underlying health conditions need more careful medical checks. Only those with risks of preeclampsia, placental abruption and other serious obstetric complications should delay their Covid-19 vaccination.
