Under the agreement, the company will provide funding of VND1 trillion for the project, which is expected to start next April and be completed in 2027.
The footbridge project which connects the central District 1 and the Thu Thiem New Urban Area in Thu Duc City, is expected to be a highlight of the area.
The city has chosen an architectural design featuring nipa palm leaf imagery proposed by a consortium of Japanese-invested Chodai - Takashi Niwa Architects and Chodai Kisojiban Vietnam for the project. The design would allow pedestrians to have a good view of the river.
Speaking at the event, director of the municipal transport department, Tran Quang Lam, said that the bridge has a complex design that can bear a seven Richter scale magnitude earthquake.
"The bridge is also designed to carry a large number of people during big events," the official said. "This is the country's biggest project funded by an enterprise."
