HCM City left sodden by heavy flooding

Heavy rain overnight on September 16 left the southern economic hub of Ho Chi Minh City experiencing historic levels of flooding.

Heavy rain overnight on September 16 left the southern economic hub of Ho Chi Minh City experiencing historic levels of flooding.

The entire 3 kilometre stretch of Kinh Duong Vuong Street was deeply submerged under water. At some sections, water lapped halfway up the sides of struggling motorbikes. At least 2 kilometres of Luong Dinh Cua Street were also under water. Congestion occurred despite efforts by the city’s traffic police.

As engines faltered in the flood water, many people had no option but to either push their bikes homes or as a last resort were forced to leave their motorbikes behind.
