Every year, around 7,500 people die of traffic accidents and nearly 15,000 others suffer from lifetime injuries.

Vietnam witnessed over 7,500 people killed and 15,000 injuries due to traffic accidents, Binh said.

The deputy PM called on ministries, agencies, localities and people to strictly obey traffic safety. He also sent his deepest condolences to traffic accident victims’ families.

Binh and thousands of people at the ceremony then spent a minute's silence in memory of people who died in traffic accidents.

According to Khuat Viet Hung, vice chairman of the National Committee for Traffic Safety, the Law on Alcohol Harm Prevention and Control and Decree 100 on fines for drunk driving which have taken into effect early this year have helped to reduce traffic accidents.

Vietnam is expected to see a drop of 10% in traffic accident number, deaths and injuries this year, the lowest level over the past decade.
