Harvard welcoming Vietnamese students to Singapore

Vietnamese students will have a chance to share their perspectives on regional issues at an annual international conference in association with Harvard University.

The Harvard Project for Asian and International Relations (HPAIR) is a student-run organisation from Harvard and the largest annual student connection to the prestigious school in Asia.

Students who have been selected to attend this year's conference will discuss the following topics: unlocking the energy puzzle, business strategy and management, the political economy of transition into Asia, entrepreneurship, international law in Asia and a new agenda for Asian environmental security.

HPAIR strives to promote understanding of the economic, political, social, and cultural issues facing the Asia-Pacific region.

Edward Thai, HPAIR Executive Chair Emeritus and Harvard University alumnus, shared: “The conference attendees from many countries will benefit very much from the Vietnamese perspectives. There has been a lot of change in growth here in Vietnam that I think may happen in other countries or it may have already happened, but the sharing of their observations on their ideas and problem-solving solutions, both ways I think will benefit. Beyond that, many students who attended the conference will be leaders of the business society in the future and I think it’s very important for leaders of the future to be connected as soon as possible because I believe connectivity means progress.”

Thai also shared that Vietnamese participation in 2006 was at a record high with 8 students from several universities taking part.

This year's event will be held over a period of 5 days beginning August 20 in Singapore.

Students, who want to join the conference, can visit www.hpair.org for online registration. Applications are due by July 15.

Those selected will then be offered interviews by HPAIR.
