Hanoi's CPI increases slightly in October

Prices of most commodities measured in the survey increased during the month, but only modestly. The price of homes, fuel and construction materials witnessed the largest increase, of 1.17%, which has been widely attributed to higher gas prices.

Food prices decreased by 0.02% from September levels, while some consumer goods such as clothes, footwear, dishes and soap slightly increased (0.41%).

Culture, entertainment and tourism and transport saw rose by by 0.82%, 0.78% and 0.63% respectively.

The month saw gold price inch up by 4.52%, while the US dollar index was up 0.05% from September.

According to the office, local credit organisations attracted total deposits of VND870.42 trillion (USD41.4 billion), up 1.5% against last month and 5.9% compared to December 2011.

The total value of industrial production in the city was up 3.6% in October from the previous month, and 8.5% against the same month last year.
