Hanoi Police Traffic Department has just announced traffic bans and restrictions on some streets during the two-day state funeral for Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong on July 25-26.

According to the department, traffic will be banned from 6 am-11 pm on July 25, and from 6 am to 2.30 pm on July 26 on Tang Bat Ho, Pham Dinh Ho, Nguyen Cong Tru, Yec-Xanh, Tran Thanh Tong, Nguyen Huy Tu, Le Quy Don, Nguyen Cao, Hang Chuoi, and Tran Khanh Du streets.

All vehicles except for those on duty for the state funeral will also be banned on Ho Tung Mau Street from 2 pm-6 pm on July 26.

Some highways will also be closed to 10-tonne trucks and passenger buses with over 40 seats from 6 am-10 pm on July 25, and from noon to 5 pm on July 26, with certain exceptions for those used for the funeral, vehicles with proper identification, sanitation trucks, and emergency response vehicles.

Local traffic police have prepared plans in case of prolonged and severe congestion.

Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong passed away on July 19 at the age of 80.

According to the state funeral committee led by State President To Lam, a tribute service for the party leader will be organised at the National Funeral House at 5 Tran Thanh Tong Street in Hanoi from 7 am-10 pm on July 25 and from 7 am-1 pm on July 26.

A memorial service will be organised at the National Funeral House at 5 Tran Thanh Tong Street in Hanoi at 1 pm on July 26. And the burial service will be held at 3 pm the same day at Mai Dich Cemetery in Hanoi.
