Hanoi shop investigated for suspected fake Gucci and Burberry goods

Authorities in Hanoi have discovered nearly 140 suspected counterfeit luxury items branded as Gucci and Burberry at a shop in Kim Lien Ward.

The inspection was part of a nationwide crackdown by market surveillance forces targeting illicit trade between May 7 and May 30.

On the morning of May 7, inspectors conducted an unannounced check at PHAM LUXU, located at 27 Tay Son Street and owned by Le Thuy Linh.

At the premises, authorities found 140 products including clothing, footwear, handbags, wallets and belts bearing the trademarks of Gucci and Burberry, both protected in Vietnam.

The total listed value of the consignment at the shop was nearly VND 100 million (about USD 3,900) (Photo: DMS).

Inspectors said the shop owner failed to present a household business registration certificate as required.

Authorities also found that the products lacked invoices and documents proving lawful origin, had no packaging and showed signs of trademark counterfeiting.

The total listed value of the seized goods was nearly VND 100 million (approximately USD 3,900).

During questioning, the owner reportedly admitted purchasing the products from various informal sources for resale at a profit.

The inspection team drew up a report and temporarily seized all suspected counterfeit goods for appraisal and further handling under intellectual property regulations.
