Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai has directed the People’s Committee of Hanoi to preside over and coordinate with related sectors to list healthcare and educational facilities that will move out of the urban area and to find appropriate places for them to relocate.

Previously, on August 11th, the Deputy Prime Minister gave instructions to the Ministry of Construction, the People’s Committee of Hanoi and related ministries to make a list of healthcare and educational facilities in four districts of the capital city.

Most state hospitals in the north are concentrated in Hanoi and therefore, unable to be utilised very easily for those living outside of urban areas. The Government hopes to spread these hospitals out to better share their resources. Also, being located in highly urban areas could cause health hazards and environmental pollution. These locations are more difficult to upgrade and renovate meaning that it would be more efficient to move them outside of the main urban area.

In the 4 districts of Hoan Kiem, Dong Da, Hai Ba Trung, and Ba Dinh, there are 16 healthcare facilities. These include 12 facilities at the state level and 4 at the ministerial level. There are also 26 educational and training facilities, including universities and colleges.

Moving healthcare, educational and training facilities out of the urban area of Hanoi is a priority to reduce the population density as well as to create conditions for them to be efficiently planned and upgraded.
