Hanoi lacks vaccines for expanded vaccination programme

Hanoi has faced the vaccine shortage in the Expanded Immunisation Programme, according to the municipal Department of Health.

According to the director of the department, Nguyen Thi Ha, Hanoi has lacked five among ten vaccines in the Expanded Immunisation Programme comprising measles, mumps, chickenpox, rubella, tuberculosis, hepatitis B and polio vaccines.

Due to the vaccine shortage, people have used vaccination services. However, those in remote and mountainous areas lack access to these services, which is unfair, Ha added.

The World Health Organisation and the United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund have raised the likelihood of the polio return in Vietnam to the medium from the lowest level, mostly because of the polio vaccine shortage, Ha noted.

She has asked the National Assembly and the government to quickly deal with the vaccine shortage.

HCM City has also lacked vaccines for the programme.
