Under the firm’s recommendation, a 13,400-square-metre parking lot would be turned into a commercial building with underground parking. Meanwhile, a 55,000 square-metre plot planned for a commercial area, a garden and roads will be changed into a shopping area, offices, hotels and high-rise buildings for around 3,000 people.

Residents in the urban area jointly sent a petition to the municipal people's committee to oppose the proposal, concerned that the changes would sharply raise the population for the area, overloading the local infrastructure.

The committee issued a document signed by Vice Chairman Nguyen The Hung, turning down the Nam Thang Long Urban Area Development Company’s proposal.

He also urged the city Department of Architecture and Planning to co-operate with concerned agencies to hold direct dialogue with people at Ciputra Urban Area to understand more about their complaints.
