Hundreds of drivers gather at the headquarters of Grab on Tong Duy Tan Street in Hanoi to protest against the firms’ new commission policies.

Hundreds of drivers on Monday gathered at the company's headquarters at 78 Tong Duy Tan Street in Hanoi, turning off their apps to protest against the policies which have been applied from December 5.

According to a driver, the current commission ratio is 20%. Besides, drivers are required to pay an additional 10% deducted as personal income tax.

"If a customer pays us VND100,000 for a trip, we'll have to pay VND20,000 to the app's operator," he explains. "And with VND80,000 left, we continue to face a 10% personal income tax deduction. That means we only keep VND72,000 and we have to pay for fuel."

"If Grab does not agree to slash the ratio, I will stop working for the company," the driver said.

Earlier, to ensure payment for drivers after valued added taxes are raised following Decree 126, Grab had raised taxi prices by 5-6%.

Following the raise, taxi price for GrabCar is now VND9,500 (USD0.41) per kilometre, and GrabBike VND4,000 per kilometre.
