Germany pledges EUR 300 million to Vietnam

The Federal Republic of Germany has pledged to provide Vietnam EUR 300 million to support the country's development over the next two years.

The Government of the Federal Republic of Germany has pledged to provide Vietnam EUR 300 million (VND 8 trillion) to support the country\'s development over the next two years.

This was announced at negotiations on development co-operation between the German and Vietnamese governments in Germany on October 26, according to a press release from the Embassy of Germany in Vietnam.

Of the total, EUR 15 million from the German Federal Ministry for the Environment will be used for environmental protection programmes in Vietnam.

German Secretary of State for Economic Co-operation and Development, Gudrun Kopp, said that the German government will carry on assisting Vietnam in human resources development, administrative reform, anti-corruption activities, environmental protection, coping with climate change, protecting natural resources and health care services for rural areas.

Germany will also continue to promote its long and successful partnership with Vietnam based on the traditional friendly relations between the two nations, she added.
