According to the ministry's report, the 61-year-old German man landed at Can Tho Airport from the Philippines on March 29. He was sent to a quarantine area in Ben Tre Province upon arrival and tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 on April 12.
The patient is now being treated at the Ben Tre Provincial Lungs Hospital.
The six Vietnamese new patients include four men and two women aged between 20-37 who recently returned from Cambodia and Japan. They were sent to a local quarantine area upon arrival and tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 on April 12.
The patients are now being treated at hospitals in Danang City and Kien Giang Province.
With these new infection cases, the number of Covid-19 patients in Vietnam has increased to 2,714, including 910 locally-transmitted cases reported since the new outbreak started in Hai Duong on January 28.
As of 6 pm on April 13, a total of 2,445 Covid-19 patients had recovered and been discharged from hospital. There have been 35 deaths, most of them being the elderly with serious underlying diseases.
At present, over 36,000 people who had close contact with Covid-19 patients or returned from virus-hit areas are being monitored at hospitals, quarantine facilities, and at home.
